Toowoomba’s Greer Park International Raceway played host to the Retro Karting Australia Formula 100 group on the 18/19th November for their “King of the North” Titles to round out the close of the years events.

The entry list included what could go down as a “State Of Origin” battle and there was some spectacular racing from the 15 Southerners  (7 VIC, 8 NSW) and 8 Queenslanders.

Friday presented the normal great Queensland weather for some testing and “run in” of the 90’s air cooled engines. Pit arrangements had the Formula 100 group together to showcase and maintain that comradery that has travelled with them all year .

The event was coupled with the final round of the Toowoomba & Lockyer Valley Kart Club’s 2017 championship which also came down to the wire with some of the classes contested.

This was further enhanced by the club categories clockwise racing Saturday and anti-clockwise on Sunday. F100 maintained the clockwise direction for the entire event and all proved satisfactory.

Included was the Queensland Vintage Group with their on track activity and pit display.

Saturday forenoon was scheduled for official warm up/practice till midday followed by a Welcome address from club President Tom Kenneally. Then it was on to Timed Qualifying and unfortunately – as experienced by the F100s at other events – the Victorians had brought the nasty weather to Queensland and the heavens opened up for Saturday’s events of Qualifying and Heat 1.

Sunday left Victoria behind as the sun was out, the track dry and the racing was fast and competitive for the remaining Heat,  Pre Final and Final.

The events ran like clockwork with timing and races all concluded just before another downpour helped to send the Southerners back to reality.

In all, 23 F100 entrants added to the club racers for a healthy 91 competitors at the last event of the year.
